Chimney Trail Reroute

Hello, all Scrubbers, this is an early trail update.

For anyone that may not know we lost the trail to the chimney this fall, one of the landowners on Burnham Road in Freedom is building a house on their property and unfortunately it is right in the middle of the trail.

First off, we would like to thank said landowner for the previous years of allowing us the use of their property. We were advised they would eventually build but they let us continue using the trail. Their time has come, and they are building their forever home in our community. We wish them the best and look forward to new members in our community!

That being said we are very fortunate to have received permission from another family in the area to move the trail on their property which will ultimately bring us back to the chimney. This trail became a 2-part project the lower end and the upper end. We have basically completed the lower end to date, but the upper part is a little more work as well as a couple bridges too much to complete this fall.

Moving on to a new update to this situation, our trail master in discussions with the landowners has secured a temporary reroute through their field to access the upper trail a little further up and bypassing the areas for bridges, allowing us to make it to the chimney for this year. This is amazing news and a huge ask of the family! Last week we completed the heavy work of this temporary trail. Some signing & adjusting of X junction maybe a little more trimming we will have the reroute open for the season.

As many will know, this was a huge task & thanks to our members and volunteers it looks like we pulled it off & will not go the season without our famous Chimney Trail. A bridge build, multiple excavation projects, cutting, trimming, signing! We could not have done this without all of you, our members & volunteers! Thank you for putting in the countless hours to make this happen!

What you can do as a snowmobiler!

We need all members & guest riders to understand this temporary re-route will be through the field in front of their house & exit right near all the buildings @ Burnham Road. We have flagged area and used ribbon to fence off the trail in the field.

It is imperative that we all stay on the trail, do not ride the field, be cautious and clean when using this property. A bad year could cause us issues with the remaining permanent trail.

As they say, “STAY ON TRAIL OR STAY HOME”, we are sure all our riders will make sure the new landowners are happy & remain excited to allow access on their property.

At the top of the trail at the road crossing you will have the ability to stop and see the views before continuing to the Chimney and it is breathtaking. We ask that all of us be the snowmobilers landowners hope to have riding on their property. Respect all areas, police yourselves take out your trash and leave no trace. The new landowners have graciously allowed access to their property on both sides of Burnham Road and are excited to become part of the snowmobiling community and a part of SOS! Let’s make sure they feel welcome and happy they have snowmobilers on their property.

As always thank you to them and all Landowners for their continued support of our trail system! We are lucky to have them all on our side!
